Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

Tova works the evening shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium. After her husband’s death, she finds that it really helps to keep busy, and she likes the quiet atmosphere of the aquarium after hours. She makes an unlikely friend in Marcellus – a giant Pacific octopus who’s got ninja escape skills and likes to tour the aquarium at night. Unbeknownst to Tova, Marcellus may hold the key to what happened to the mystery of what happened to her son 30 years ago, and he’s determined to tell her before it’s too late.

If you’re looking for something on the lighter side to start your summer reading off, this charming little book will be just the thing. A mystery, quirky characters, a potential romance, and of course Marcellus, make this an utterly delightful read. And, if you happen to listen to the audiobook version and happen to catch actor Micheal Urie’s voice as Marcellus – even better!
