How do I sign-up?

  • Visit the Youth and Teen Services on the Upper Level of the Library to sign up and get your reading tracker  and starter pack of cards.

Who can participate in Reading Dragons & Friends?

  • Anyone aged 5 and up.
  • No Library card is required.

Once you receive your reading tracker, you will set a daily reading goal and mark your tracker for each day that you hit your goal.  Earn cards and visit the Youth & Teen Services desk to pick up your cards.  You may pick up cards whenever you like, but are limited to picking up 2 months of cards at a time.

How long do I need to read per day?

You set your own reading goal. It might be 20 minutes per day, or a chapter per day, or 1 picture book per day - you decide!

Can I count reading that I do for school?

You should count reading that you do outside of school, but it can be reading that you do for school.

Do the books have to be library books?

No, any book you read counts, whether it's a library book, your own book, your friend's book, etc.

My child is under 5 and wants to participate. How can they sign up?

Reading Dragons and Friends is only for those ages 5 and up. For our younger friends, we have a fantastic program called 1000 Books Before Kindergarten that they can sign up for at any time!

I like to listen to books on the computer/iPad/eReader/etc. Can I count them?

Listening to audiobooks counts as reading!

I participated in Reading Dragons before. Do I need to sign up again?

Yes, everyone needs to sign up again for the new year. You will need to get the new reading log and the new starter pack of card.
