2024 Solar EclipseCelebrate the 2024 Solar Eclipse with the Library!

Beginning March 8 through April 8, register for the 2024 Solar Eclipse Challenge through Beanstack!  Complete 3 activities to earn an entry for the grand prize: an Orion StarBlast 4.5 Astro Reflector Telescope.

Participants can also claim a pair of solar eclipse glasses from Monday, March 18 to Saturday, April 6.  Glasses are first come, first served and limited to one pair per person while supplies last.

NOTE: Solar Eclipse Challenge is limited to PAPL cardholders.

Don’t have solar eclipse glasses?

If purchasing a pair of solar glasses, please only buy from verified suppliers. View the American Astronomical Society’s list of Suppliers of Safe Solar Viewers & Filters

If you are unable to acquire solar eclipse glasses, you can use these instructions from Adler Planetarium to make your own pinhole projector using simple materials.

Lunar Nightlights

Create a lunar design with watercolor paint on translucent paper.  Then cut out your design using our Cricut and attach it to a provided nightlight.

Mysteries of the Solar and Lunar Eclipses

Prepare for the 2024 solar eclipse by joining astronomer Kevin Manning on a cosmic journey that seeks to explain the mysteries of solar and lunar eclipses and the entire cosmos from the very small to the very large.

Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

Kick things off with a short video that explains the solar eclipse.  You can choose to view the eclipse outside (weather permitting) or watch a live stream inside.  The eclipse will be viewable about 12:50 PM to 3:21 PM with maximum viewing at 2:06 PM.  Solar eclipse glasses are NOT provided at this event.
